parent with hyphenated last name has a baby with person without. what do they do for baby?

Question: the mother didnt change her name, it's still kirk-gleason, but the dad is smith. what would the daughter be? kirk-gleason-smith or should they pick and choose? thing is, mom and dad want their names to be used. if anything, it would be kirk-smith because mom was an only and so was her mom (kirk) thinking about smushing them alltogether, something like kirithson or something else. the baby is NOT just getting her fathers last name. the mother wants her name used as well. stop suggesting that. for the abillionth time, screw tradition. the baby is the mothers and fathers and ill be damned i both dont get some claim on her!

Answer: Wow! you asked for suggestions and then you got all bent out of shape because you didn't like what the people suggested. AND that's what they did... SUGGESTED alternatives. It is perfectly acceptable to give the child both the mother and the fathers' last name thus kirk-gleason smith. Yes, it is long in the tooth but oh well. Now, If I were the mom and dad I would think about the child and the pain in the butt this child is going to have using all those names (throughout their entire life) I would stop thinking of myself and compromise and use either one or the other . Momma should decide whether she wants to use kirk or gleason with dad's smith. If the two of them cannot compromise on this name thing then I see absolutely no way they are going to make it as a couple . In that respect I would then just use mom's name . Kirk-gleason
